Summary
Provides an analytical overview of the UN efforts in the field of prevention of armed conflicts. Outlines initiatives that the UN System launched: i) to assist Member States in building their capacity for the prevention and peaceful settlement of disputes and for building sustainable peace and development; and ii) to strengthen its own capacity for providing such assistance. States that in the 2004 comprehensive report of the Secretary-General to the General Assembly, he intends to present recommendation on how to strengthen the Organization's prevention capacity. DAA
