Submitted in compliance with General Assembly resolution 56/76 of 11 Dec. 2001. Gives an account of definition, concepts and modalities of partnerships. Reviews some recent developments, including the International Conference on Financing for Development and the World Summit on Sustainable Development, to illustrate the variety of partnership arrangements between the UN entities and the non-State sector, and tries to derives lessons and formulate proposals for meeting the challenges ahead.
