Known for leading the Iraq Survey Group (ISG) that conducted investigation of the scope of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and releasing the final report on Iraq's purported WMD programs (the Duelfer Report), Charles A. Duelfer's (United States of America, 1952 - ) career in national security agencies began working at the White House Office of Management and Budget, where he was responsible for Department of Defense strategic nuclear forces and space programs. He joined the United Nations, after working as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for arms control and multilateral defence matters in 1993, as Deputy Executive Chairman for the United Nations Special Commission on Iraq (UNSCOM). Mr. Duelfer served in UNSCOM until its termination in 1999; he eventually became acting Executive Chairman. The interview was conducted on 7 October 2000, shortly after the end of UNSCOM. Giving special insight to Iraqi relations, Mr. Duelfer relays his experiences with working in the Special Commission.
