Decides to convene the UN Conference on Environment and Development, which shall be of 2 weeks' duration to coincide with World Environment Day, on 5 June 1992; affirms that the Conference should elaborate strategies and measures to halt and reverse the effects of environmental degradation; decides that the Conference should have inter alia the following objectives: to examine the state of the environment and changes that have occured since the UN Conference on the Human Environment, held in 1972, and the adoption of the Plan of Action to Combat Desertification, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer; to recommend measures to be taken at the national and international levels to protect and enhance the environment; to promote the further development of international environmental law; to examine the relationship between environmental degradation and the international economic environment; to explore the concept of assured access for developing countries to environmentally sound technologies; decides to establish the Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Environment and Development.
