Requests the Secretary-General: (a) to issue a succint questionnaire, by 31 Dec. 1989, requesting details of action taken at the national and regional levels in implementing the targets together with details of any difficulties experienced in meeting them; (b) to prepare a report to be issued by 30 Nov. 1990, analysing the information and assessing how best to provide help to States in furthering demand reduction strategies; urges all Governments and intergovernmental organizations to co-operate fully in the preparation of the report and to give higher priority to demand reduction in their national strategies to combat drug abuse; calls upon ILO, UNESCO and WHO and other appropriate organizations to intensify relevant activities and accord them higher priority; calls upon non-governmental organizations to extend their activities in developing and executing demand reduction programmes through their contacts with the community at the grass-roots level; encourages the UN Fund for Drug Abuse Control in the development of its master plans to give due attention to demand reduction activities; urges Member States to take steps to assign the appropriate priority within the proposed programme budget outline for the biennium 1990-1991 approved by the General Assembly in its resolution 43/214.
