Summary
Welcomes the initiative of the States members of the Caribbean Community to erect permanent memorial in acknowledgement of the tragedy and in consideration of the legacy of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade; also welcomes the establishment of a committee of interested States to oversee the permanent memorial project, drawn from all geographical regions of the world; endorses the establishment of a trust fund for the permanent memorial, to be referred to as the UN Trust Fund for Partnerships - Permanent Memorial; welcomes the appointment of a Goodwill Ambassador; encourages the Unesco to launch an international design competition for the permanent memorial; requests the Department of Public Information to continue to take appropriate steps to enhance world public awareness; requests the United Nations Office for Partnerships to submit a comprehensive report to the General Assembly at its 65th session on the status of the Trust Fund.
