2nd United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (2008-2017) : resolution

Takes note of the report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the 2nd UN Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (2008-2017); emphasizes that education and training are among the critical factors in empowering those living in poverty, while recognizing the complexity of the challenge of poverty eradication; acknowledges efforts of developed countries to increase their assistance for development; notes with concern, however, the overall decline in official development assistance in 2006 and 2007; requests the Secretary-General to appoint a focal point from within the UN system to coordinate the implementation of the 2nd UN Decade in close consultation with Member States; considers that a theme for the 2nd UN Decade shall be "Full employment and decent work for all"; recognizes the need to give the highest priority to its consideration of the item on poverty eradication in its agenda.
