Welcomes the signing on 20 Nov. 2007 of the Charter of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations by leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations at the 13th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit, held in Singapore, 18-22 Nov. 2007; continues to encourage the UN and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to convene Association of Southeast Asian Nations-UN Summits regularly, and underlines the importance of the presence thereat of the Secretary-General of the UN and heads of relevant UN departments, funds and programmes, and specialized agencies, and in this context welcomes the decision to convene the 3rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations-UN Summit, to be held in Thailand on 17 Dec. 2008; recognizes the value of partnership between the UN and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in providing timely and effective responses to global issues of mutual concern, in the context of partnership between the UN and regional organizations; encourages effective cooperation between member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the appropriate UN organizations in the delivery of operational activities in the area of development at the country level.
