Torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment : resolution / adopted by the General Assembly

Condemns all forms of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, including through intimidation, which are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever and can thus never be justified, and calls upon all States to implement fully the absolute prohibition of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment; urges States not to expel, return ("refouler"), extradite or in any other way transfer a person to another State where there are substantial grounds for believing that the person would be in danger of being subjected to torture; urges all States that have not yet done so to become parties to the Convention as a matter of priority; calls upon all States, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other UN bodies and agencies, as well as relevant intergovernmental and civil society organizations, including non governmental organizations, to commemorate, on 26 June, the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.
