Summary
Decides, with effect from its 62nd sess., to observe on 15 Sep. of each year the International Day of Democracy, which should be brought to the attention of all people for its celebration and observance; requests the Secretary-General to recommend ways and means by which the UN system and the UN Secretariat could, within existing resources, assist Member States, upon request, in organizing activities to commemorate the International Day of Democracy; also requests the Secretary-General to take necessary measures, within existing resources, for the observance by UN of the International Day of Democracy; urges the Secretary-General to continue to improve the capacity of the Organization to respond effectively to the requests of Member States by providing adequate support for their efforts to achieve the goals of good governance and democratization, including through the activities of the Democracy Fund at UN.
