Summary
Reaffirms its support for efforts aimed at promoting confidence-building measures at the regional and subregional levels in order to ease tensions and conflicts in Central Africa and to further sustainable peace, stability and development in the subregion; strongly appeals to the international community to provide all necessary support for the smooth functioning of the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; appeals to the international community to support the efforts undertaken by the States concerned to implement disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programmes; welcomes the creation of a mechanism for the promotion, maintenance and consolidation of peace and security in Central Africa, known as the Council for Peace and Security in Central Africa; requests the Secretary-General and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to continue to provide their full assistance for the proper functioning of the Subregional Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa.
