Summary
Refers to the Secretary-General's letter of 24 May 2006 (S/2006/319) concerning request to send defence forces to Timor-Leste as a matter of urgency and states that in view of the deteriorating security situation in Timor-Leste he has requested Ian Martin, who served during 1999 as the Special Representative and Head of the UN Assistance Mission in East Timor, to travel to Timor-Leste to assess the situation, working closely with the UN Office in Timor-Leste and the Timorese leadership.
