Summary
Requests the Secretary-General and the UN Coordinator of International Cooperation on Chernobyl to strengthen coordination of the international efforts to mitigate and minimize the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster; notes the necessity of further measures to ensure the integration of the assessment by the Chernobyl Forum of the environmental, health and socio-economic consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear accident into the International Chernobyl Research and Information Network process; requests the President of the General Assembly to convene, in April 2006, a special commemorative meeting of the Assembly in observance of the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe; requests the Secretary-General to continue his efforts in the implementation of the relevant General Assembly resolutions; requests the UN Coordinator to organize, in collaboration with the Governments of Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, a further study of the health, environmental and socio-economic consequences of the Chernobyl accident; requests the Secretary-General to submit to the General Assembly at its 62nd session a report containing a comprehensive assessment of the implementation of all aspects of the present resolution.
