Summary
Reaffirms the importance of addressing global road safety issues and the need for the further strengthening of international cooperation; encourages Member States and the international community to lend financial, technical and political support, as appropriate, to the UN regional commissions, WHO and other relevant UN agencies for their efforts to improve road safety; stresses the importance of the improvement in the international legal road traffic safety norms; invites Member States to implement the recommendations of the World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention and to establish a lead agency, on a national level, on road safety and to develop a national action plan to reduce road traffic injuries, by passing and enforcing legislation; invites the UN regional commissions and WHO to organize jointly, the first UN Global Road Safety Week; invites Member States and the international community to recognize the third Sunday in November of every year as the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims; requests the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly at its 62nd session on the progress made in improving global road safety; decides to include in the provisional agenda of its 62nd session the item entitled "Global road safety crisis".
