Statement / by the President of the Security Council

Statement [made on behalf of the Security Council, at the 5277th meeting, 13 Oct. 2005, in connection with the Council's consideration of the item entitled "Reports of the Secretary-General on the Sudan"]

Expresses its grave concern on recent upsurge of violence in Darfur and insists that all parties strictly abide by past ceasefire agreements; strongly condemns these attacks by armed groups which killed peacekeepers and civilians; urges all parties to ensure humanitarian access in Darfur; expresses its support to African Union Mission and demands all parties cooperate fully with it by taking necessary steps to deployment and effectiveness of AMIS; remains firmly committed to the cause of peace in all of the Sudan and urges all parties to conclude a peace agreement without further delay.
