Letter, 3 Feb. 2005, from the Chairman of the Security Council Committee Established pursuant to resolution 1533 (2004) concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Transmits the reaction of the Government of Rwanda to the report submitted on 4 Jan. 2005 by the Group of Experts on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (S/2005/30). Refutes allegations contained, in particular, under following headings: i) civil aviation; ii) allegations of Rwandan support for dissident forces; iii) Rwanda's alleged "residual" presence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; and iv) negative forces of the Forces démocratiques de libération du Rwanda. Recommends that the Group's report, together with the evidence on which it is based, be subjected to critical review either by the Joint Verification Mechanism between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in which the UN Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the African Union participate, or the Tripartite Regional Security Mechanism between the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Rwanda, in which the UN, the African Union and the European Union participate as observers.
