Summary
Reviews main developments in areas covered by General Assembly resolution 58/14 for the period Sept. 2003-July 2004; includes a specific consideration of current risks to the marine biodiversity of vulnerable marine ecosystems relating to fishing activities; and provides a review of existing conservation and management measures at the global, regional, subregional or national levels that address these issues. Points out that regional and subregional fisheries management organizations and arrangements are required, inter alia, to adopt effective conservation and management measures for fishery resources under their competence; improve fishery data to ensure that the best scientific evidence is available; adopt effective monitoring, control and surveillance; and agree on effective decision-making procedures. Included annexes are: i) summary of responses to the questionnaire and list of respondents; and ii) recommendations of the 3rd round of informal consultations of States Parties to the Agreement. DAA
