DAA Describes progress on the following areas: i) security; ii) disarmament of the Janjaweed and other armed militia and outlaw groups; iii) impunity and confidence-building; iv) humanitarian situation and humanitarian access in Darfur; v) returns; vi) human rights and protection; vii) north-south peace process; viii) Darfur peace process; ix) African Union Mission in Darfur; and x) preparations for a UN peace support operation. States that violence in Darfur is on the rise and new movements are threatening the peace in Kordofan, in the east and in Khartoum. Also states that there is reluctance at the negotiation table in Abuja, distrust, internal division, lack of capacity to negotiate and no sense of urgency. Requests the Security Council to consider creative and prompt action to ensure effective implementation of the demands set out in its earlier resolutions adopted on the Sudan in 2004.
