Summary
DAA Provides conclusions reached at the 5th meeting of the Joint Implementation Mechanism, 17 Sept. 2004. Describes progress towards security in the month of Sept. 2004, especially on the following areas: i) disarmament of the Janjaweed and other armed militia and outlaw groups; ii) impunity and confidence-building; iii) humanitarian situation and operations in Darfur; iv) returns; v) human rights and protection; vi) Darfur peace process; vii) north-south peace process; and viii) African Union Mission in Darfur. States that this month can, at best, be perceived as a period of consolidation of what had been achieved earlier, and urges the Government to fulfil all of its obligations and commitments. Also lists issues to be addressed in the month ahead: i) deployment of the expanded African Union force; and ii) political talks between the Government and Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Sudan Liberation Army.
