Summary
Updates the comprehensive review of the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus included in the report of the Secretary-General to the High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development (A/58/216), held in New York on 29-30 Oct. 2003, and responds to General Assembly resolution 58/230. Includes sections under following headings: i) mobilizing domestic financial resources for development; ii) mobilizing international resources for development: foreign direct investment and other private flows; iii) international trade as an engine for development; iv) increasing international financial and technical cooperation for development; v) external debt; vi) addressing systemic issues: enhancing the coherence and the consistency of the international monetary, financial and trading systems in support of development; and vii) staying engaged. Reflects uneven progress in achieving the goals set out in the Monterrey Consensus, suggesting that strengthening implementation efforts in all areas of the Consensus - national, international and systemic - continues to be essential, and states that, thus, the recommendations contained in the previous report (A/58/216) remain valid today.
