Summary
Calls upon all States to adopt and to continue to implement effectively necessary legislative and other appropriate measures to mitigate the effects of natural disasters; stresses the importance of strengthening international cooperation, particularly through the effective use of multilateral mechanisms, in the provision of humanitarian assistance through all phases of a disaster, from relief and mitigation to development; reaffirms that disaster risk analysis and vulnerability reduction form an integral part of humanitarian assistance, poverty eradication and sustainable development strategies and need to be considered in development plans of all vulnerable countries and communities; stresses the need for partnerships among Governments and relevant organizations to promote training and access to and transfer of technology related to early warning systems; requests the Secretary-General to finalize establishment of the Directory of Advance Technologies for Disaster Response as a new part of the Central Register of Disaster Management Capacities; requests the Secretary-General to examine ways to further improve the assessment of needs and responses and to enhance the availability of data regarding funding in response to natural disasters.
