Briefs on the advances made towards the protection of children affected by armed conflict. Provides specific information requested by the Security Council resolution 1460 (2003), namely assessment of particular violations of the rights of children; assessment of progress made by parties in ending child-soldiering; best practices in integrating the specific needs of children into disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programmes; assessment of child protection advisers; assessment of negotiations aimed at ending the recruitment or use of child soldiers; and specific proposals on ways to ensure more effective monitoring and reporting. Includes annexes on i) updated list of parties to armed conflict that recruit or use children in situations of armed conflict on the agenda of the Security Council; and ii) other parties to armed conflict that recruit or use children in armed conflict.
