Muhammad El-Farra (Jordan, 1927 - ) was the Jordanian Ambassador to the United Nations from 1965 to 1971, and served as President of the Security Council in March 1966. Before his time at the United Nations Mr. El-Farra studied law at Suffolk University. He first became a member of the Jordan Delegation to the United Nations in 1958, representing Jordan in the Security Council, Economic and Social Council and in the legal committees during his long tenure. His first contact with the United Nations was in 1947, when as a law student in the United States, he helped to form the Arab Student Organization for Palestinians which appealed to the Arab Ambassadors at the United Nations, when Palestine was first occupied by Israel. It was this event which convinced him to abandon law for a career in diplomacy at the United Nations. In this interview, conducted on 13 March 1998, Mr. El-Farra discussed his term as Security Council president and his experience as the Jordanian Ambassador to the United Nations during the 1967 Arab-Israel War.
