Respected and renowned author, David Escobar Galindo (El Salvador, 1943- ), served as President Alfredo Cristiani's personal representative to the Comisión de Diálogo (the Dialogue Commission) during the Civil War in El Salvador. In this capacity, he was a significant figure in 1992 peace talks between the El Salvador Government and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), which eventually paved the way for end of the twelve-year civil war in El Salvador. In this interview, conducted on 21 January 1997, Mr. Escobar Galindo discussed the Peace Accords, his role in the negotiation process, other actors involved and the implementation of the resulting agreements.
