Summary
Mr. Timur Goksel (Turkey, 1945 – ) served as Press Information Officer/Spokesman of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in 1979. In 1995 he became a Senior Adviser of UNIFIL, where he conducted lectures, seminars and workshops for diplomats and military officials on public information, communication policies in peacekeeping, theory and practice of peacekeeping and international organizations. Mr. Goksel joined the United Nations in 1968 as Information Assistant at the Ankara Information Office. Following a compulsory national service in Turkey from 1973 to 1975, Mr. Goskel rejoined the United Nations in Ankara before being assigned to UNIFIL. Serving as Senior Adviser of UNIFIL at the time of the interview, conducted on 17 March 1998, Mr. Goksel discussed the beginnings of UNIFIL and its role, as well as his experiences as Spokesman to UNIFIL.
