Summary
DAA Analyses recent developments in the external debt situation of, and capital flows to, developing countries and economies in transition in light of the overall situation of the global economy. Provides an assessment on the continuing reserve accumulation and the causes and implications of the net transfer of resources from developing countries. Also provides an analysis of private capital flows to developing countries in a longer-term perspective. Focuses on debt relief under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative and agreements at the Paris Club and comments on recent developments with regard to new mechanisms for the restructuring of sovereign debt. Complements the report of the Secretary-General for the High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development (A/58/216). Includes a table on the external debt of developing countries and countries in transition.
