Summary
Congratulates Burundian parties on peaceful transition of power in accordance with 2000 Arusha Peace Agreement; condemns the 17 and 25 Apr. attacks on Bujumbura and other cities by the forces of CNDD-FDD; reiterates its demand that FNL (Rwasa) lay down its arms and immediately enter into ceasefire with Government of Burundi without preconditions; expresses support for speedy deployment of African Mission in Burundi; urges donors to support economy in Burundi; urges Burundian parties to take serious, meaningful steps to address human rights and accountability issues; reaffirms vital importance of Burundian parties themselves to address devastating impact of impunity; requests the Secretary-General to continue to support peace process in Burundi.
