Summary
Requests the Commission to conduct a review of grade equivalency between the UN and the United States federal service in accordance with the new master standard during its review of the pay and benefits system, taking fully into account the post structure of the UN and of the United States federal Government, and to report thereon to the General Assembly at its 59th session; approves increases in the maximum reimbursement levels for 7 countries or currency areas, as well as other recommendations in respect of the reimbursement of expenses under the education grant, as contained in paragraph 141 of and annex V to the report of the Commission; approves, with effect from 1 Jan. 2003, the revised scale of gross and net salaries for staff in the Professional and higher categories, as contained in the annex to the present resolution; requests the Commission, when conducting its review of the pay and benefits system, to bear in mind the necessity for performance management systems to be fair and transparent; reiterates its request to the Commission to review, in the context of the review of the pay and benefits system, the existing linkage between the base/floor salary scale and the mobility and hardship allowance; endorses the terms of reference of the panel on the strengthening of the international civil service, as contained in the report of the Secretary-General.
