Summary
Strongly encourages Governments to continue to support the role and contribution of civil society in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action; requests the Secretary-General to include an assessment of the progress in promoting the goal of gender equality in his annual and quinquennial follow-up reports on the Millennium Declaration; welcomes the convening of the World Summit on the Information Society, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2003, and Tunis in 2005; reaffirms its decision that the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the Commission on the Status of Women constitute a three-tiered intergovernmental mechanism; encourages the Economic and Social Council to request the regional commissions to intensify efforts to build up a database in which all programmes and projects are listed; recognizes the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and in peace-building; requests the Secretary-General to ensure that all UN personnel and officials at Headquarters and in the field receive training so that they mainstream a gender perspective in their work; welcomes the entry into force of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women; urges Member States to consider signing, ratifying or acceding to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Protocols thereto.
