Summary
Calls upon the Government of Guatemala to fulfil its commitment to the full implementation of the peace agreements and to implement fully the recommendations contained in the report of the UN Verification Mission in Guatemala on human rights; underlines the importance of implementing fully the Agreement on Identity and Rights of Indigenous Peoples and highlights the need to implement fully the Agreement on Social and Economic Aspects and Agrarian Situation; calls upon the Government to implement the recommendations of the Commission for Historical Clarification; urges the international community to support financially the strengthening of national capacities to ensure the consolidation of the peace process in Guatemala and strengthening of the capacities of the UN agencies and programmes; stresses that the Mission has a key role to play in promoting the consolidation of peace and the observance of human rights and in verifying compliance with the revised timetable for the implementation of pending commitments under the peace agreements.
