Summary
Nicanor Costa Mendez (Argentina, 1922 – 1992), a former Argentine Foreign Minister, was a leading figure in the War for the Falkland Islands in 1982. From 1962 to 1964, he served as Argentine ambassador to Chile. He was appointed as Foreign Minister in 1966 by President Juan Carlos Onganía; he served that term until 1969. Mr. Costa Mendez returned to the Foreign Ministry at the end of 1981 and remained at that post for the duration of the Falkland War between Argentina and the United Kingdom. Conducted on 27 October 1990, two years before his death from lung cancer, Mr. Costa Mendez reflected on the Falkland War and the Argentine attitude towards the United Nations' mediation.
