Letter, 14 Oct. 2002, from the Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 864 (1993) concerning the situation in Angola

Transmits additional report of the UN Monitoring Mechanism on Sanctions against UNITA, which is the 6th in a series submitted to the Security Council since the Mechanism's appointment in July 2000. Covers the period since the report of Apr. 2002 (S/2002/486) and reviews the findings on sanctions regime under the following: arms component, representation component, diamond component, and finance component. Included Annexes are: i) summary of the activities of the Organization of African Unity Ad Hoc Committee on the Implementation of Sanctions against UNITA and assessment of its collaboration with the Monitoring Mechanism; ii) report on the activities of the Southern African Development Community relating to the implementation of the UN sanctions against UNITA; iii) contribution to the report by the Government of South Africa; iv) recommendations of the 1st Interpol meeting on arms trafficking in eastern and southern countries.
