ملخص
Mr. Ernest Gross (United States, 1906-1999) began his appointment as the United States deputy delegate to the United Nations in 1949. Two months later, Mr. Gross became acting head after the chief delegate, Warren Austin, took a leave of absence. Mr. Gross represented the United States on United Nations Security Council Resolution 82, which condemned North Korea at the onset of the Korean War. In 1950, Warren Austin returned and Mr. Gross continued to serve as deputy delegate until 1953. Before his work with the United Nations, Mr. Gross worked extensively as a civil servant, serving as legal adviser and counsel to the United States Department of State and the National Labor Relations Board. During World War II, Mr. Gross served as a captain in the United States Army and was assigned as the chief of the economic section of the Civil Affairs Division of the General Staff of the United States Department of War. After WWII, he rejoined the US State Department as Legal Adviser as deputy to the Assistant Secretary of State for Occupied Areas. In 1949 he was appointed Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs before being posted to United States Delegation to the United Nations. In 1953, Mr. Gross joined the law firm of Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle and was associated with the firm when this interview took place. Conducted on 12 April 1990, Mr. Gross discussed the reaction and events that took place after North Korea invaded South Korea in June 1950.
