Résumé
Walter Beeley (United Kingdom, 1909-2001) served as an Under Secretary in the British Foreign Office, focusing on Iraq, Iran and the Arabian Peninsula. Mr. Beeley was one of two Under-Secretaries involved in the response to the 1956 war in the Middle East, attending private meetings with Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld. In addition to the Middle East, Mr. Beeley had a limited role in consultations for the ongoing situation in the Congo at the time. In this interview, conducted on 20 June 1990, Mr. Beeley discussed British involvement in Middle East affairs, the international reaction to the events of the 1956 Suez crisis as well as how Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld handled the situation.
