Statement / by the President of the Security Council

Statement [made on behalf of the Security Council, at the 4542nd meeting, 23 May 2002, in connection with the Council's consideration of the item entitled "Admission of new Members"]

Has decided to recommend to the General Assembly that the Democratice Republic of East Timor be admitted as a Member of UN; notes with great satisfaction the Democratic Republic of East Timor's solemn commitment to uphold the purposes and principles of the Charter of UN and to fulfil all the obligations contained therein.
