Summary
Recognises that trade in conflict diamonds is a matter of serious international concern, recognises also the positive benefits of legitimate diamond trade to producing countries, welcomes important contribution by the World Diamond Council and civil society in assisting international efforts to stop trade in conflict diamonds; welcomes the contribution made by the Kimberly Process towards developing proposals for the international certification scheme; urges the finalization of the international certification scheme and its implementation as soon as possible; supports the extention of the work of the Kimberly Process until an international certification scheme is adopted and implemeted; welcomes the offer by Canada to host the next meeting of the Kimberly Process in Ottawa and requests countries participating in the Kimberly Process to submit to the General Assembly, no later than the 57th session, a report of the progress made.
