Resúmen
Takes note of the appointment of a coordinator for multilingualism, notes the willingness of the Secretariat to encourage staff members to use any of the six official languages in formal meetings, stresses that employment and promotion of staff should be carried out in strict accordance with Art. 101 of the Charter, takes note of the overhaul of the recruitment system within the context of the Galaxy Project and requests the Secretary-General to submit at its 58th session a comprehensive report on the implementation of its resolutions on multilingualism; also welcomes the decision by the General Conference of UNESCO on 17 Nov. 1999 to proclaim 21 February as the "International Mother Language Day" and requests the Secretary-General to report to it on its 58th session on the measures that can be taken in order to strengthen the protection, promotion and preservation of all languages, in particular languages spoken by persons belonging to linguistic minorities and language facing extinction; decides to include in the provisional agenda of its 58th session the item entitled "Multilingualism".
