Expresses its solidarity with the peoples of the countries that have been struck by natural calamities as they cope with the consequences of the disasters; expresses its appreciation to all States of the international community, international agencies and organizations and non-governmental organizations and individuals that are providing emergency relief to the affected areas; notes with satisfaction the progress achieved by Greece and Turkey on the formation of a joint standby disaster response unit; requests the Secretary-General, through the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, to continue to work on the modalities for the utilization of the standby disaster relief unit by UN system; also requests the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly at its 57th session on the progress made in the implementation of the present resolution.
