Summary
Transmits report prepared by Hina Jilani, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on human rights defenders, submitted in accordance with General Assembly resolution 55/98 and Commission on Human Rights resolution 2000/61. Contains issues of special concern in the protection of human rights defenders: (i) impunity in cases of threats and attacks against human rights defenders; (ii) legal actions against human rights defenders; (iii) intelligence activities aimed at human rights defenders; and (iv) propaganda and smear campaigns against human rights defenders. Covers also the issues of implementation of the Declaration on the Right and Responsibility of Individuals, Groups and Organs of Society to Promote and Protect Universally Recognized Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: (i) impact of militarism on protection and promotion of human rights; and (ii) compatibility of national legislation with principles of the Declaration.
