Summary
Commends the UN Peace-Building Support Office in the Central African Republic and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the efforts they have constantly made to contribute to peace and stability; expresses its concern at the political and social tensions which have recently resurfaced and notes the absence of dialogue between the Government and the opposition; welcomes the contributions from bilateral and multilateral donors for the consolidation of public finances; strongly encourages the Government to do everything in its power to strengthen democratic institutions and to take concrete measures to implement economic reforms; encourages the Government to take all the necessary financial measures to relaunch the demobilization and reintegration programmes; urges all political actors to contribute to the reduction of tension; requests the Secretary-General to keep the Council informed on the progress made and to submit a report by 30 June 2001.
