Résumé
Reaffirms its resolution 13 (I) of 13 Feb. 1946, in which it established the Department of Public Information (DPI) of the Secretariat; requests the Secretary-General to focus, in particular, on educational institutions as key and indispensable partners of the UN in its efforts fully to inform the peoples of the world of its aims and activities; welcomes the decision taken by DPI to launch a new web site to publicize the UN Year of Dialogue among Civilizations; emphasizes that all publications of DPI should fulfil an identifiable need, should not duplicate other publications of the UN system and should be produced in a cost-effective manner; welcomes the development of the UN News Service by DPI; requests the Secretary-General to ensure that information presented to the media is made available to delegations fully and in a timely fashion; requests the Secretary-General to look into the possibility of appointing directors to those UN information centres that are not yet integrated and are under the temporary management of offices of UNDP to ensure the autonomous status of the centres; encourages DPI to continue to include in its radio and television programming specific programmes addressing the needs of developing nations; urges the Secretary-General to maintain and strengthen the managerial capacity, staff resources, programme output and means of delivery of UN Radio in the 6 official languages and requests DPI to continue to ensure the greatest possible access for UN guided tours and to ensure that displays in public areas are kept as informative, up-to-date, relevant and technologically innovative as possible.
