Summary
Calls upon all States that have not yet done so to take all measures to become parties, as soon as possible, to the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects and the Protocols thereto, in particular the amended Protocol on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Mines, Booby Traps and Other Devices (Protocol II); calls upon States parties to the Convention that have not yet done so to express their consent to be bound by the Protocols to the Convention; welcomes the convening, 11-13 Dec. 2000, of the 2nd Annual Conference of States Parties to Amended Protocol II, in accordance with article 13 thereof, and calls upon all States parties to amended Protocol II to address at that meeting, inter alia, the issue of holding the 3rd annual conference in 2001; recalls the decision of the States parties to the Convention to convene the next review conference no later than 2001, preceded by a preparatory committee, and recommends that the review conference be held at Geneva in Dec. 2001; welcomes the convening of the 1st session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2nd Review Conference at Geneva on 14 Dec. 2000, and decides to convene the 2nd session 2-6 Apr. 2001 and the 3rd session 24-28 Sep. 2001; requests the Secretary-General to render the necessary assistance and to provide such services, including summary records, as may be required for the 2nd Review Conference of the States Parties to the Convention and the Preparatory Committee for the 2nd Review Conference; also requests the Secretary-General, in his capacity as depositary of the Convention and the Protocols thereto, to continue to inform the General Assembly periodically of ratifications and acceptances of and accessions to the Convention and the Protocols thereto.
