The Industrial Development Report 2022 reveals that countries with stronger manufacturing capabilities and more diversified industrial sectors have weathered both the economic and the health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic better than their peers. Findings documented in the report strongly reaffirm the centrality of Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG 9) to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Beyond supporting resilience, manufacturing also plays a fundamental role in driving shared prosperity. The industrial sector creates jobs, incomes, innovations and multiplier effects that also ignite other parts of the economy, as it serves as an integrator also between agriculture and the service sector.
