The present report summarises key patterns and trends of household size and composition around the world by describing levels or trends in various indicators, such as the average number of persons per household, the prevalence of one-persons households and large households with 6 or more members, the characteristics of heads of household, and the prevalence of nuclear, extended-family households and multi-generation households, among others. A technical annex documents the procedures used in compiling the United Nations Database on Household Size and Composition 2018.
