Declines in fertility, changes in patterns of marriage, cohabitation and divorce, increased levels of education among younger generations, continued rural-to-urban and international migration, and urbanization, in tandem with rapid economic development, are reshaping the context in which older persons live, including the size and composition of their households and their living arrangements. This Highlights presents the key findings of the analysis of the dataset on Household and Living Arrangements of Older Persons 2019 and reports on some provisional results of the analysis of COVID-19 morbidity and mortality risks faced by older persons and the factors behind those risks.
