It describes sources, capture, transport, and storage of CO₂. It also discusses the costs, economic potential, and societal issues of the technology, including public perception and regulatory aspects. Storage options evaluated include geological storage, ocean storage, and mineral carbonation. Notably, the report places CO₂ capture and storage in the context of other climate change mitigation options, such as fuel switch, energy efficiency, renewables and nuclear energy. This report shows that the potential of CO₂ capture and storage is considerable, and the costs for mitigating climate change can be decreased compared to strategies where only other climate change mitigation options are considered. The importance of future capture and storage of CO₂ for mitigating climate change will depend on a number of factors, including financial incentives provided for deployment, and whether the risks of storage can be successfully managed. The volume includes a Summary for Policymakers approved by governments represented in the IPCC, and a Technical Summary. 5 annexes. 003892909 561__ $$aCaptured 5 Nov. 2020 $$uhttps://www.ipcc.ch/site/assets/uploads/2018/03/srccs_wholereport-1.pdf 003892909 63007 $$aUN Framework Convention on Climate Change (1992)$$2unbisn$$0(DHLAUTH)188325 003892909 65017 $$aCARBON SEQUESTRATION$$2unbist$$0(DHLAUTH)590973 003892909 65017 $$aCARBON DIOXIDE$$2unbist$$0(DHLAUTH)270851 003892909 65017 $$aENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION$$2unbist$$0(DHLAUTH)270598 003892909 7001_ $$aMetz, Bert$$0(DHLAUTH)624459 003892909 7000_ $$aDavidson, Ogunlade R.$$0(DHLAUTH)405003 003892909 7001_ $$aConinck, Heleen de$$0(DHLAUTH)916896 003892909 7001_ $$aLoos, Manuela$$0(DHLAUTH)916897 003892909 7001_ $$aMeyer, Leo$$0(DHLAUTH)916898 003892909 7102_ $$aIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
