Summary
The report describes the activities of the International Civilian Mission in Haiti (MICIVIH) since the last report of 10 May 1999 (A/54/950) in carrying out its mandated responsibilities of providing institutional assistance (with particular reference to the police, judiciary, the penal system, the Office of the Ombudsman and civil society organizations), supporting the promotion and protection of human rights and verifying observance of individual rights, fundamental freedoms and due process requirements. It also gives an overview of the changes that have affected the composition and mandate of the Mission over the years and presents observations, conclusions and recommendations.
