Statement made on behalf of the Security Council, at the 4026th meeting, 28 July 1999, in connection with the Council's consideration of the item entitled "Admission of new Members" / President, Security Council

The Security Council has decided to recommend to the General Assembly that the Kingdom of Tonga be admitted as a Member of the UN; notes with satisfaction the Kingdom of Tonga's solemn commitment to uphold the purposes and principles of the Charter of the UN and to fulfil all obligations contained therein; looks forward to the day in the near future when the Kingdom of Tonga will join as a Member of the UN and work closely with its representatives.
