Summary
Expresses concern at the increase in ethnically-related incidents, evictions and housing intimidation cases and the emigration from Croatia of a large number of Serb residents and displaced persons since late 1996 which could have a negative effect on the restoration of a multi-ethnic society; welcomes the adoption by the Government of a nationwide programme for the return and accomodation of displaced persons, refugees and resettled persons and calls for its prompt implementation; calls upon the Government to improve police response to ethnically-related incidents, evictions and housing intimidation cases; welcomes the decision of the OSCE Permanent Council to deploy civilian police monitors to assume the responsibilities of the UN Police Support Group.
