Implementation of the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons: towards a society for all in the 21st century

Encourages Governments and the non-governmental community to examine key social and economic policy issues related to the equalization of opportunities for persons with disabilities, in particular, (a) accessibility, (b) social services and social safety nets and (c) employment and sustainable livelihoods; urges Governments to cooperate with the Statistics Division of the Secretariat in the continued development of global statistics and indicators, and encourages them to avail themselves of the technical assistance of the Division, as needed; urges relevant bodies and organizations of the UN system, including relevant treaty bodies, such as the Committee on the Rights of the Child, the regional commissions and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and institutions, to work closely with UN in the promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities; decides that the next quinquennial review and appraisal of the World Programme of Action, in 2002, shall consider the issues mentioned above; invites Governments, concerned non-governmental organizations and the private sector to continue to support the UN Voluntary Fund on Disability; requests the Secretary-General to increase the accessibility of UN and its offices and meetings to persons with disabilities.
